I'm conflicted by this secret.

On the one hand, as a fic writer, I find getting these kinds of comments where it's obvious the reader hasn't read the fic properly even more depressing than getting none at all.

On the other hand... no, I'm just hoping the secret writer actually manages to disguise they haven't read the fics they're commenting on.

I suppose their heart is in the right place? But I'd rather get no comments at all, especially if it's a small fandom and not totally unexpected.

I don't think I've ever gotten a comment where it's obvious the commenter hasn't read the fic properly. Sure, there are plenty which could be left even by someone who didn't read it (e.g. the generic nice story, I liked this, etc.) but those can all be left by people who have read it, too.

ayrt

I get so many, but to be fair to most of them, I think English isn't their first language and some of the details of what was happening in the fic just passed them by.

I'm hoping the secret maker just writes "I liked this" or something incredibly brief and neutral. Even "nice story" wouldn't be that appropriate if the fic was 10k words of pure rape torture porn or something. "Nice fic!" would send alarm bells ringing as to the sanity of the reader.

NAYRT - I keep getting reviews like this from the same person actually, and I'm starting to wonder if she's not doing the same thing as OP. So often I just want to say, "okay, WHY did you like this?" But she might just be one of those very to the point people.

I have... It's really sad when someone just completely misses the point of the fic. :(
