I know you mean well, but I'd rather receive no reviews than one from someone just being nice. If they figure out that their compliments really weren't, how do you think they'll feel?

Yep.

Writing and posting fic, especially for small fandoms, is often done in the hope of meeting other like-minded individuals. Leaving fake comments like that kind of defeats the purpose.

Yeah, this is basically my take. If I were to find out that a positive comment was, well, "fake," then that would honestly bother me more than receiving either a negative comment or no comment at all.
