I did some 1-on-1 fic exchanging with a friend a few years ago. I didn't think of it as RPing, but it probably was, now you put it like that.

It was a very different feeling to doing it out in the open, though. We could totally indulge each other's kinks, both narrative and other, and there was no pressure from others to keep it going after we got bored.

That's how I found it too. It was less 1-on-1 RP as it was an easygoing collaborative fic, and it was much more gratifying.
