Isn't it also pretty easy to avoid a lot of the discussion about people liking problematic things? You see someone using the word "problematic" and go "I probably don't need to keep reading this comment; moving on...".

I know that doesn't help when people are responding to you directly but while it's annoying when people tell you why you're wrong to like or dislike what you do without being asked, that's true no matter what their argument is.

well there are the immature jackasses who will flood your ask box and report your posts to tumblr because they don't like the pairing you ship. tumblr doesn't even look at the posts, they just automatically delete everything that gets reported. and they'll flood the tags of the pairing with spam.
