Obviously, as a ficwriter, the best world would be one in which you actually read the story and then left a comment.

But, as a ficwriter, comments/follows/etc are pretty much my lifeblood, so I say stop feeling guilty and keep up the comments if you enjoy leaving them. For every "fake" comment you leave, there were probably 100+ people who read it and didn't do anything.

ETA: That said, my favorite comments are detailed ones from people who've clearly read the fic, so there's that too.
