I'm in the Naruto fandom, so that's all I hear. It's funny, because the manga is about magical child ninjas murdering each other. Who cares if a ship is problematic? The whole dang story is!

That's what I find so weird about it, in general. It's like fandom fixates on weird things they chose to while about and disregard the big ones (like kids killing kids, or whatever).

I guess it's a suspension of disbelief thing?

I can deal with the idea of elves, but I can't deal with the idea of hiding anime-style elf ears under a regular hood successfully.

So I can accept weird genre conventions for the sake of enjoying a story, but I may have trouble swallowing smaller parts of it.
