Your intentions are good, but I don't know... as a writer, I prefer genuine compliments from people who've read my work and honestly enjoyed it. Your comments would be feel very empty in comparison. The fact that the author doesn't realize it might mitigate things in some peoples' eyes, but... again, I don't know. It feels dishonest.

Is this about making authors feel good, or about you feeling good because you've done something "nice" for someone that required very little effort?
