It would have left O'Brien free to pursue things with his true love, Bashir.

Poor, poor O'Brien. I mean, no disrespect to Keiko, but that just did not seem like a relationship that really worked out.

O'Brien and Bashir! Yes! Everyone always ships him with Garak, which I can read, but I'm all about the O'Brien/Bashir.

Well, O'Brien was who they started giving Bashir storylines with when they stopped giving him storylines with Garak because of the gay, isn't he?

It does amuse me that apparently Julian Bashir is just unstoppably gay

True. I guess the friendship thing just appeals to me more than the slightly antagonistic thing he had going on with Darak. But Julian was definitely always gay or bi in my mind.

He is. It doesn't help that Bashir's relationships with women were always badly written or awkward. But stick him with a guy, and suddenly there was chemistry.
