I agree with everything here.

I'd also like to add that while I adored The Book of Life, it plays with several tropes that many of these same tumblr users ream in other media.

Yet their defense for that is "Oh but you guys LOOOVE love triangles when they're in shows about white people", which one of the biggest strawmen since tons of people on tumblr complain about love triangles in media with white characters. People are just sick of the trope, it's so disingenuous to try to deflect that with "You let white shows get a pass" when you can't prove they do that. And it doesn't make the criticism invalid.

Yeah that seems kind of baseless. People complain about love triangles constantly, white people or not.

Oh come on, I've heard nothing but praise for the masterful love triangle in The Hobbit that adds so much richness to a world that would otherwise be amazingly boring! A true showcase of romantic writing talent, truly.
