You sound like a GGer or one of Anita Sarkeesian's trolls. If something is harming people in real life, it needs to be stopped.

E.g. Sexist video games cause or at least contribute to real life harm against women. Sexist video games need to stop being made. Sure this may sound like "Policing" but clearly some media needs to be policed.

Except being gay is not something harmful nor is it something that can be learned.

Sexism is both.

witchcraft tho

So violent video games cause violent behaviour IRL even though a large number of scientific studies say otherwise? Alright then!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-19 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Studies also say you personally are a piece of shit. This counts as proof that you're a piece of shit, right? We're just alluding to studies without providing any links and it counts as proof, right?

Also I'm not really talking about violence. I'm saying sexism. Games promote sexism in real life. This is a provable fact.

but if I were talking about sexism and volence, all I would need to do is point to what Anita Sarkeesian, Brianna Wu, Zoe Quinn, Etc Etc Etc are facing. Violence and sexism from *Gasp* Video game players? Surely not!

correlation does not imply causation

go take a statistics pls

God, I remember the day when all that was good and right in the world was about upholding people's right to play violent violent video games without being given crap for it. I never, ever, EVER thought I'd say this, but I'm kinda missing Jack Thompson right now, no goddam lie.

How about you provide actual proof that sexism in video games causes sexism in reality? Where are those "provable facts" you speak of? Oh right, there are none. And no, "Anita Sarkeesian said so in a shitty badly researched video" is not proof - it's just about the opposite of proof.

Sarkeesian, Quinn and Wu are facing sexism by trolls and assholes, some but not even remotely all of whom are video game players. None of them has faced any violence. I'm not on either side in the whole GG argument, but anti-GGers are no wilting little flowers when it comes to threats of death and violence, either.

And then there was the whole thing where Brianna Wu took a real life murder and made it all about herself even though it had nothing even remotely to do with her, which was a really shitty thing to do.

You've got it backwards. Sexist video games don't cause sexism -- sexism causes the creation of sexist video games.
