Move over Barbie, Elsa comes to save the day

So in fandom/feminist/computer programming news (and I am nothing if not all about fandom/feminist/computer programming news), Mattel made a Barbie "I can be a Computer Engineer" book for girls in which Barbie hires her male friends to code a video game idea she has, gets a computer virus, crashes her computer, crashes her friends' computer, and then has to ask her male friends to fix everything. (Mattel has already apologized, parodies have already been made, but it still sucks.)

On the flip side! Code.org licensed Anna and Elsa from Disney to create some kid-friendly, girl-positive coding tutorials! (You make snowflake patterns with simplified functions and loops! Elsa and Anna looks so dejected whenever you fuck up! It's amazing!)

Oh man I love that coding is something people are teaching kids.

That Barbie thing sucks though.

It really is an awesome movement. I've personally been meaning to mentor with CoderDojo (https://coderdojo.com/). They do free, completely volunteer-organized meetups for kids and teens.

The Anna and Elsa Teach Coding thing is so incredibly adorable and fun. I'm working my way through it now.

That second link is awesome! I love seeing all the cool, hip programs out there for teaching kids to code. I'm all about it.
