Which actors have really surprised you out of nowhere?

I have to say that I had no respect for Sarah Silverman whatsoever until I saw Wreck-it-Ralph. Totally did not see that coming. Still don't care much for her personally but I think the performance was excellent.

Sebastian Stan. Mostly because of how much I loathed the first Captain America. But I really enjoyed him in CA:TWS and Political Animals.

Will Ferrell but only in Stranger Than Fiction. I hate him in everything else, but he was marvelous in that.

Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts in the Iron Man movies. I was expecting unmemorable blanditude, but I loved the way she played her.

I really like Charlie Sheen in Scary Movie 3 ♥

And once season 2 (and season 3a. especially 3a) of Teen Wolf got rolling, Tyler Posey was killing it for me. idgaf what anyone says, he's my special favourite winner of all.

I liked Paltrow's Glee appearances.

She's a great voice actor. I just love her (and her sister) in Bob's Burgers.

Robert Pattinson, mostly based on all his interviews and how much he loathes Twilight.

I used to not like Scarlett Johansson because I thought she was kind of blah in The Prestige and Iron Man 2, but now I know the "blah"ness came from the scripts and not from her.

And then this probably doesn't count, but I used to go "ugh Zac Efron," but then AVPM happened and now I kind of ironically like him. Also I found out he was young!Simon Tam.

he was young!Simon Tam.

Because of course I need another excuse to re-watch Firefly.

I should probably be embarrassed to say this, but at some point I've started to genuinely like Zac Efron. Like everyone else, I made a lot of fun of him in his High School Musical days, but I fucking loved 17 Again. idek.

He was also in a somewhat homoerotic episode of "Running Wild with Bear Gylls" that endeared me to him. (here's a buzzfeed article that has some general highlights of the episode if anyone if curious: http://www.buzzfeed.com/lyapalater/absolutely-wonderful-moments-of-zac-efron-on-running-wild)

I was very impressed by Bradley Cooper's performance in Guardians of the Galaxy. I honestly think that playing a space raccoon has been his best role to date.

On a related note, Vin Diesel as Groot. Who knew he could get so much emotion out of one phrase?

Jessica Alba in Sin City 2. The Editing Room's parody script made a running joke out how she had the most compelling performance in the whole thing, and it was funny because it was a true, especially considering she spends a third of her scenes stripping. No idea where all that acting was hidden in all her other movies.

I thought Karen Gillan was pretty good in Doctor Who and GotG, but discovering in Selfie that she's funny was a delightful surprise.

yeah, it's enough to make you wish she could get on to a show that's actually good

Honestly? I think comedy is pretty much where her strengths as an actress lie and I hope she gets another sitcom or at least a starring role in a comedy film soon.

Bill Cosby surprised me by being a Rapist.

why is "rapist" capitalized?

I used to think Richard Gere was a not very interesting pretty boy until I saw him in Chicago. He played Billy Flynn with exactly the right blend of charm and sleaze (not an easy role to play) and he's a good dancer too.
