It reminds me a lot of how a few of the more fanatical religious folk will blacklist media because it's not in line with their teachings.

Nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with boycotting Chick Fil-A or Hobby Lobby when they step outside of what others deem acceptable.
