Do you think it depends on your fandoms themselves?

Some fandoms will by their very definition have more of a certain demographic of fan, so if you're into something that a lot of younger fans are also into, then unfortunately it can be hard to find likeminded fans of the same thing that are closer to your age.

I'm not saying just ditch the thing you're currently into, but maybe look into other fandoms you like and see if there's a more evenly distributed demographic there?

Yeah, my experience in one fandom is that it skews much older than the Tumblr average. Not that I know how old most people I follow on Tumblr are, but judging from what they post about, I think they're closer to my age than 14.
