Have you thought of getting a twitter instead? Because that's where I've seen the older fans are haging out now. Of course, some of them have tumblr, but for friendship and fangirling/fanboying and conversation they go to twitter.

Legit curious, but how is Twitter conducive for conversations that aren't split into about twelve individual tweets?

Honestly I find Twitter even worse than Tumblr, but maybe I've just been doing it wrong.

I'm mostly sticking to a few message boards I know, myself. I was fortunate enough to find one that hits the right sweet spot of moderation for me, has a relatively intelligent user base, and has a focus but also some good areas to talk about a wide variety of other topics.

I've tried Tumblr, but I'm thinking about giving it up -- maybe it's my age (late 30s), but I feel like I'll never fit in with the culture there. Too much frantically-spread misinformation, a lot of people who are locked into their personal echo chamber a little too snugly, and the occasional case of people being drive-by awful to each other (or to scorned groups, or people with too much privilege, or...)

Mmmh you get notifs. I think they changed not so long ago the way the tweets are so they appear at the top of your timeline when someone replies. You can also click on the tweet and it shows the conversation.

Ngl of course I'd prefer if fandom just moved to dw all together, but after lj's fiasco that's sadly not happening any time soon.
