What are they doing to get on your nerves, OP?

I have a friend who is on the autism spectrum, and going by how she talks on Facebook, she would've been mistaken for a troll because she has very poor social skills. I was always glad she never found fandom, it wouldn't have ended well.

After trial and error, I believe in keeping RL and online friends separate.

It didn't go that badly, it was just awkward all round. It's like being Facebook friends with your parents. Not a good idea.

Yeah, pretty much this.

I don't mind meeting online friends in person once in a great while. And I don't mind RL acquaintances watching my public online spaces, like my art gallery. But 90% of the time, trying to merge the online and RL friend-dom has just turned out really weird.

The other 10% of the time it turned out great, though. Just often enough that I've figured out what I'm looking for in potential online+RL friends, but infrequently enough that I rarely find it worth my while to take the risk :p.

Sounds like how it goes.

Help them be less annoying without policing them, I suppose.
