I'm disappointed to hear she doesn't last long in the show but I wince every time someone automatically labels a POC character a token. She had a personality and a role on the show that would've been expanded even more if she'd stayed. I don't consider that a "token".

Um... Either I had some sort of hallucination last week, or she's not dead.

She got a hammer through the head, but she survived because Lewis found her in time. We later saw her regain consciousness, and Lewis proudly presented her with some Kiwi fruits -- to which, it turned out, she's allergic.

I was going to say, was there some episode that aired that I missed? Because I distinctly remember her being alive at the end.

Oh, thank you for the clarification, this secret honestly horrified me for a moment there. Not to mention it confused me greatly because why would they have her survive that hammer ordeal only to kill her off in an episode I apparently missed?

Oh thank goodness. Only the first episode of S8 has aired in my country, so the spoiler had me really bummed for a moment there.

Knowing that she survives, though (and not having seen how the episode actually plays out, obviously) I guess a near-lethal injury is the kind of scare they could only really pull off with a new character like she is. That time Hathaway took a poison needle to the neck brace, how many people really thought it went all the way through?

Came here to say similar. Wondered if I got a super secret episode where she survived because as far as I was aware she did!

I agree with the general sentiment of the secret that it's nice to have her on the show. Also even though the new series has been good part of me still thinks it should have stayed ended. I'm happy with Endeavour now but apparently the new series of that is way off :(

At the end of the first part they very carefully avoided showing her in the 'Next week...' bit, so maybe the OP saw that and assumed she was dead.

I really enjoyed the series -- when it finished, I was wishing for two or three more stories. I liked the way Hathaway had turned into a control freak (or, rather, had had his inner control freak released by promotion), I liked that he and Lewis had trouble finding a new working relationship (but, then, I've never shipped Lewis & Hathaway), I loved Maddox (her efficiency and her dry humour), and I loved the glimpses we got of Lewis and Laura's relationship (I thought it had a really 'lived-in' feel).
