I can't enjoy most of the epic, multi-chaptered "classic" fics I see recced. It makes me feel left out, for the reasons the secret says.

The problem is that so many elements have to align for me to enjoy a fic.

Good writing (at least passable) + not a pairing I despise + none of my personal squicks (some of these are really innocuous, like teeth and can ruin even G-rated genfics)

The longer a fic is, the more chance that it will hit one of my do not want buttons.

It's so annoying to see everyone else having fun and not be able to join in. Multi-chaptered fics generate resentment with every new update that everyone else is going crazy for. That's why they're particularly irritating.
