I think "T&A comic" implies lighthearted fun, and Empowered forfeited any right to claim to be lighthearted after it introduced Willy Pete. If it tries to be serious, I judge it like it's serious.

(For those not familiar with the comic, Willy Pete is a villain who's constantly on fire. He rapes people's eye sockets until their skulls superheat and explode. I couldn't come up with something that stupidly grimdark if I tried.)

Warren has made fun of the idea that Empowered is a lighthearted fun, and even more at the idea that it's a "T&A comic". If anything, the comic is pretty much the antithesis of a T&A comic because as fanservicey as it gets? It always has dwelled with the grimdark stuff. Willy Pete is maybe the best (Worst?) example, but even before his introduction we had Thugboy's past as a hero sniper, Ninjette's abusive childhood, and Emp's very real fears about dying in bondage.
