OP Here
(Anonymous) 2014-11-22 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)-I don't have much interest in politics
-I prefer stories focused on a few people or one small setting rather than ones where the entire country/world is involved
-I've read so many stories about characters revealed to be a prince/princess that I'm automatically suspicious when royalty is a big part of the plot
-In the above mentioned stories, royalty seems used as a way to make the characters special, rich and famous without actually showing the responsibility it entails. The characters end up doing the same things they would have done anyway.
That about sums it up.
Re: OP Here
(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 01:17 am (UTC)(link)I've read quite a few royal AUs or historical fics involving royalty. They were great and fascinating.
The type of fic you're describing puts me right off. Like you say, it's a cheap way of making a character "special" but not really adding anything to them.
Re: OP Here
(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)But I wouldn't go as far as to say I instantly dislike royal protagonists It all depends on how it's handled.
It just usually isn't done well, sadly.
