Yeah, that's kind of silly, ngl.

You can always have AUs where they're single or okay with a threesome, I suppose.

I do actually generally lose interest if they have kids, but that's mostly cause I can't imagine the relationship without the kids being in the way. I don't care much about love interest, though (just like I do not really think bout the fact I'm not single, either - as it's a fantasy).

Haven't experienced this myself but I sort of get it?

Like, if your crush is based on who the character actually is in canon (rather than, y'know, a popular fanon interpretation) you wouldn't really want them to change or imagine them as something different. So it's not so easy to brush off their canonical relationships as "just fiction" when the traits that originally drew you to them were fictional too.

I don't really have crushes on characters, but I cannot ship them with someone else if they get a canon love interest. My shipping ends as soon as something becomes canon.

I'm always envious of people who say they'll carry on doing it regardless of what canon does, but I just can't do it.

I think it's sort of the same feeling as you, OP, in that I feel that by shipping them with anyone else it's cheating (or at least, kind of hollow), only in my case I feel they'd be cheating with the other character than with me.

I only get that 'cheating feeling' if they're married tbh. One of the canon ships in my biggest fandom is a couple teenagers who started dating at the end and if I wanted to ship them with someone else I can just (easily) imagine that they broke up.

Wherever with married couples, I feel bad breaking up their marriage for shipping. and even worse about having them cheat.

I hate kidfic, so if a character has kids in canon, I generally ignore the existence of the kids, or handwave them somehow.

It makes me feel like a heel, so I kind of get what you mean OP.

Relationships are one thing, and they can change. Kids are forever. Dealbreaker.

Eh, I'm not a big fan of kids in fiction or fanfic in general. But it is kind of silly since they're fictional.

You're a good person, nonny! You have a good conscience and good moral reflexes.

Not like the rest of these pervs

But even in real life a crush doesn't mean anything to the other person, it's only your personal feelings. Whatever you want to feel, feel it, it's not going to hurt anyone.

All the canon characters I've ever had a crush on are single with no canon love interest, but they're often paired up with someone in fan works and I get really jealous and really dislike whoever's in the OTP with them.

Really petty and stupid but gdi, that's my husbando.
