I do see it as a loss - but anyone who claims it's as bad as actually losing a born child, I will side-eye not take seriously. I've known people who lost kids (one shortly after birth, and one when she was already an adult at following complication of diabetes type I) - an no, no it doesn't even come close.

That being said, I acknowledge there are many levels of mourning, and I do take that seriously in itself. Everyone processes thing differently - if people are sad over a dead pet bunny, and need to cry over that for a week, I won't think less of them.
