People are going to jump on me, but when people who have only watched the Abrams' movies call themselves Star Trek fans or Trekkies, I just don't think they actually count as that. Not because of snobbery, but those films just didn't capture what Star Trek is.

Completely agreed.

The worst part is when they ONLY like an aspect that wasn't even in the originals or the sequel television series.

"I love Star Trek because Benedict Cumberbatch is an amazing Khan." Except Cumberbatch's Khan is nothing like Ricardo's personality-wise.

Call me elitist if you will, but that's my opinion.

Agreed. The Abrams movies just aren't Star Trek, at the core (which is a terrible shame)

NuTrek is basically a generic space action movie using the name of a beloved media. I'm not saying it's bad, just generic.

Worse is when people pretend to be TOS fans but they got in the fandom with the reboot and that is their fandom They will use what they heard about TOS from other fans just to validate their opinions about the reboot. E.g., a good portion of (young esp) reboot spirk fans don't really care about the original characters and ship unless it's to use their connection to justify the bad writing in the reboot and say that their ship with hot Quinto/Pine is ~canon. They heard the ship was the grandaddy of slash and it makes them feel more entlitled and better than other slash fans both in this and other fandoms.

Errr…you sound kind of bitter.

You do realize it's possible to like BOTH TOS and the reboot, right? Or, at least, aspects of both?

And you're making a pretty big assumption about other people's motivations just because they happen to ship something in the reboot you don't like?

Saying that someone can't truly love TOS because they ship reboot Spirk is a presumption on your part.

Same goes for Classic and New Doctor Who and Original BSG and that new crap they called BSG.
