I mostly lurk and rarely comment here, but I'd be happy to answer questions! The Wowhead guides linked above are probably a good start. Don't worry about the garrison until you're level 90 and going out to Draenor; it's just confusing.

As far as changes... there's a few you'll notice. One is very noticeable once you get into Outland or so, and that's the "stat squish." With Warlords, Blizzard went back and rescaled all of the content. At level 100, my main is doing about 12k DPS, and raid-level DPS is projected to be around 20k. They were pretty careful with the scaling, so you shouldn't feel like you're doing less damage - things die about as fast as they always have. The numbers are just smaller, both for health and damage. Class abilities have been trimmed down substantially as well, so everyone has fewer buttons. Crafting materials stack into much larger piles, and a reagent bank is available to every character for 100g (I actually have bagspace again!)

If you haven't really played since Cataclysm or before, you'll notice a few other things. Talents are no longer sprawling trees; you get to choose one of three talents every 15 levels. New skills are learned automatically as you level - no more running back to town to train, with the exception of professions and riding. You can now change the appearance of gear with the transmogrification system, for a small fee, in capital cities.

There's more information here, too - http://wowpedia.org/Patches. It opens with just 6.0, but if you scroll down you can click on each expansion and get all the patchnotes for every major patch and round of hotfixes, with a few of the highlights called out. (The biggest changes are in the major patches, like 6.0.0 or 5.1.0 - the minor patches, like 5.4.1, are more focused around bugfixes and rebalancing, and not about new content.) I'd recommend scanning http://wowpedia.org/Patch_6.0.2, since that explains the majority of changes between Mists and Warlords, and that patch went live in mid-October. (6.0.3a is what's currently live, but it's mostly fixes and adjustments and doesn't really explain a lot.)

Battletag does not work cross-region, sadly. If you're in EU, you won't be able to friend anyone in the US. I like friends, though - Inuki#1320, currently playing half a dozen different characters on Cenarion Circle (US - Alliance). I promise I won't think random requests are creepy. :)

I hope some of that helps!

Ah, thank you! My sis and I did play in Cataclysm. And we played like 3-4 months in MoP. I'll have to relearn how to play my lock again. ;_;

Actually, the break might wotrk to your advantage, as all sorts of things have changed anyhow. Easier to learn the new rather than first having to "un-learn" the old, imo.

Destruction though I enjoy Affliction more. Destro was always better for raiding.

Destro is pretty simple to relearn!
