You sound like me. Like, it would be awkward to get the sandwich and say hi to them again, but if you went into the kitchen to make the sandwich and didn't acknowledge them it would also be awkward and maybe come across as rude.
You know what? Just go do it. Maybe just give them a smile if they look your way. It's the type of thing us people think every one will pay attention to and is really obviously awkward, but I doubt your flatmate's friends will even really care or think too much about it.
