Am I the only one who thinks this book wasn't all that special? I enjoyed it and all, but I keep seeing people hold it up as some kind of standard for uniqueness and originality and I'm just not seeing it. It was a fun book and I'm glad I read it, but I've never felt the desire to re-read it or anything.

The GB books contain a few of my favorite lines of all time. I find the high-functioning damage of the characters wonderful, and Locke is a brilliant, devilish, terrifying riot. I adore the books, but I can certainly see why people wouldn't love them.

If you think they're complete trash, though, then I question your tastes. :p

I think people appreciate it because it's a breath of fresh air in most mainstream fantasy novels. You've got humor, for one thing. It's also not about royals and noblemen and wars of succession, it's more about thieves, friendship and big heists, etc. So that's a good change of pace as well.

IMO, the first book in the series is fun, but very rough around the edges. Lynch improves with each book.
