The first one reminds me of 'House of Four Winds', first in a new series by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory (whose writing I like much better as a team than either singly!). There will in theory be 12 books in the series, since the idea is that a very small kingdom can't support dowries for its 12 princesses so they get sent out when their of age to make their fortune. The first princess chose the sword as her trade and is the heroine of the first book.

Lawd, Mercedes Lackey. I read a handful of her books in the "Elves on the Road" umbrella; most of the bardic ones and the first 3-4 SERRAted Edge ones until it got too glurgey. Those ones were, like, social justice themed fantasy but from 1993; very ahead of the trend!

Her stuff just varies wildly depending who she's collaborating with. I liked the ones written with Ellen Guon and Mark Shepherd best. The ones with Larry Dixon (her husband) were by far the worst, and not just in that series. I tried one other one and couldn't get into it either.

Anyway, if you liked this one, I'll contemplate it. I haven't read any fantasy novels since the spring.

Yeah, I just can't get into her solo books. HotFW was good fun, a bit dark in subject at times (old-school navies did some SHIT so I feel like it doesn't strain the boundries of reason) but on the whole a light easy read. Bit of romance, bit of action, intriguing worldbuilding. I give it 4 1/8 stars out of 5.
