When you get right down to it, the first CGI animated series, ReBoot, had only debuted a year or two before, I think, and it was by the same studio, Mainframe. They were breaking new ground with resources that would look incredibly limited these days. (Toy Story came out around the same time, but that was a single movie's worth of animation done with a much, much higher budget.)

Even at the time, there were fans commenting on things like the lack of shadows or the occasional clipping, and it can be hard to watch if you're used to today's standards, but it really is worth seeing just how things got their start. ReBoot, too -- it was wildly experimental in parts, and it worked more often than not.
