Besides one cut, the animation has been really boring. It feels mainstream cartoons never want to experiment and that's one of the biggest draws for me.

The animated was great, it looked like old cell animation...and the different styles they mimicked, Richard Scarry, the old rubber neck style, merry melodies...

My sympathies OP, I hope the fic gets finished! Good on you for leaving reviews, though. I never understand it when people loooooooove a fic and want to see it completed but somehow never manage to tell the author(s) this.

This should have been posted to secret #6, I think.

What is this from?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Cartoon Network's miniseries Over the Garden Wall. 10 episodes, 11 minutes each. For what it's worth, I personally thought it was great. :)

Over the Garden Wall, 5-part miniseries on Cartoon Network the week after Halloween

I liked it quite a bit, but I was kind of surprised by how much hype it got. A lot of people on tumblr acted like it was the most revolutionary and incredible cartoon they've ever seen (because, well, tumblr only operates in extremes I guess) and it's like...I thought it was a lovely little show, but it wasn't THAT good. Still fun though imo

I didn't read the review but someone on the AV Club gave the final episode an A+. (It was a regular A the next time I looked at; I wouldn't have believed the A+ happened if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.) So it's not just Tumblr who thought the series was incredible. I haven't watched it, so I don't really have a horse in the race yet. :)

I thought it was neat that Sarah was black, though the face paint kind of cheapens it a little I suppose

na

She could have been Indian or something as well. It was kind of hard to tell

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
True enough! It is hard to tell just by hand color

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I loved it and I'm not that much into cartoons (watched it for Elijah Wood doing Wirt's voice, fell in love with the show). But hey, not everyone has to love it, OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with it being anti-climactic but I still enjoyed it. I liked their personalities. I enjoyed Beatrice's story. And I thought the songs and animation worked really well setting a mood.

Not every show works for every person. And the people who love are going to talk about it more than the people who didn't care for it, so you might view the response as being skewed.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's kinda anti-climatic. But I love it nevertheless. The trio is lovely and the style is really cute. It is kinda overhyped, though, but well, I don't mind.

I really dug Over the Garden Wall. I thought the ending actually worked and I just personally love the emotional poignancy with the woodsman at the end, so that kind of cemented the whole show for me. It's not like fervent love, but I'd totally get it on DVD if it came out.

That said, sorry the show didn't do much for you, anon.
