Wait, you specified fanfic. Since you implied the races of the characters you're writing are up to author, are you talking about OCs in particular?

Maybe they only write for fandoms with white characters? Or... they're in a fandom with diverse characters but they only write fic with the white characters? I was confused, too.

Maybe they play video games where you can customize the player character's appearance, and they only ever play as a white female character?

I get the logic, but that seems like a thing that would've been alluded too in the original secret.

Hey, I play white female characters in video games so I can SEE them against the background.

Unless odd color choices are offered like green and blue and purple.

(Okay, so I've made PoC characters if it fit the setting, Asian characters in Asian themes and African characters in African themes, but most the time white girls because omg, I need to be able to SEE what I'm playing!)
