I don't have strong feelings about Strange, but I feel that Cucumber is overexposed.

(My boiling point was ST:ID. He bored me to loathing in that.)

What's hilarious about STID too is that it (when adjusted for inflation) made a tad bit less than the first reboot movie. It actually made less than Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home as well.

Hm, well, factoids.

I'm not denying he's got a lot of fans. It's just that, for me, he really doesn't disappear into his roles to the extent that, say, Meryl Streep used to. ~ But I do understand that box office draw is more important than using an unknown/lesser-known actor who can really bring trhe character to life.

I was about to say that surely The Voyage Home made more than any Trek film when adjusted for inflation (it made $100,000 in the 80s!), but Box Office Mojo tells me it's actually #3 behind 2009 and The Motion Picture, which is surprising. Guess that tells you something about Trek Fandom that so many people went to see the first movie (even though it was so boring!)

Star Trek movies have never really been about Star Trek fandom, in terms of their financial draw, except maybe the last couple TNG ones. The movies have always needed to draw beyond the fandom, and they mostly have. And the same is equally true of TMP - it came out when space was big, what with stuff like Close Encounters and Star Wars and all that, which was they made it in the first place, and it worked.

(Also, I'm assuming you meant over $100 million, not over $100,000, since $100,000 is piddling)
