You sound young and naive.

What sucks about Western society is that women of EVERY body type are shamed for something. You're not tall enough, your hair isn't right, your facial expressions are wrong, you're not flirty enough, you're too fat, you're too thin, your genitals smell like a vagina, you're too athletic-looking, you're not feminine-looking...

Not all of this hate is spread equally, and fat women do get a lot of it. But if you seriously think a song that puts others down to build the singer up is empowering... all I can say is, I hope you grow up quickly.

Yes. All of this.

It's not that the song is "skinny shaming;" it's that it's buying in to the idea that, as women, we need to compete for acceptance and attention from men, and that acceptance and attention is contingent upon completely unrealistic notions of perfection and beauty.

I don't find the song empowering because it strikes me as being the same old thing.
