I don't give a shit which characters you identify and like but this whole "I only identify with characters like me" stuff just sounds stupid to me. Is your sex and race literally the only thing about you? If you're a smart, white girl, you can't identify with a smart, Asian girl? You can't identify with a smart, white guy? I can't imagine how narrow your powers of empathy must be if you can only identify with people who have these narrow traits in common with you. And, seriously, how much do you have in common with most characters anyway? Even if your white female protagonist is white and female, she's probably a fucking superspy or telekinetic or a druid warrior or some other shit that I can guaran-fucking-tee that you are most definitely not.

I agree. I honestly do not understand people who can't relate to people who aren't the same race as they are. Just because someone is Asian or black, or whatever, doesn't make them some kind of alien you wouldn't be able to relate to.
