some people are more into friends than fans. equal relationships, you know, instead of being "put above" everyone else. Besides, with fans come haters, too, and few people want or deserve that.

Actually, yes I do. I would rather people care about ME rather than the fandom I put out. I'm not used to being put on a pedestal for what I make, and it seems everything Sailor Moon-related I've done (videos, fanart, fanfic, cosplay) has gained fans, not friends. Just once I'd rather have a friend, which I thought fandom was for.
