14. Your HoYayDar must be incredibly sharp. I didn't pick up much homoerotic overtones at all, although that might have been because I was busy rooting for Atsuko and Tokita.

I loved it when they got together at the end! I was rooting for it, too. But there was the bit when Paprika was pinned to the table and she said that Osenai sold his body to Himuro for the DC mini. If you look, you can see homosexual porn mags on Himuro's shelf when they're investigating his apartment.

So I admit, some of it is theory, but that is pretty cemented, I think.

Interesting. That was one of my favorite scenes from the film (at once beautiful and disturbing), and I think I'll watch it again and try to pick out some of the details I may have missed. It didn't help that I watched the movie on an extremely tiny screen in a dark room full of chattering college students.

LOL, yeah! Chattering college students definitely don't help. It's hard enough just watching it with some of my friends at times!

Osenai is a really awesome character, just from all the implied things, and even the Oedipus complex mentioned by Paprika, which makes me think he was sleeping with the chairman, too. They were sharing a double bed in their final scene together, and the whole "sharing a body" thing in dreamland could be a metaphor for something else, if you catch my drift... ;D

Osenai's also got some major complexes about his looks--if he didn't look like himself, he was presented in a Godly sort of way. ~~I just noticed that the last time I watched it.~~ I think it's that obsession with his own looks that lead him to... well, all that.

Er, I got carried away. ^^; But that's some things to keep in mind when you watch it!

It's funny, but while watching the film, I did make note of the final in-bed scene and assumed that they were sleeping together (and yet I still didn't make the homoerotically thematic connection, wtf brain?). Considering the nature of their deeply complex and clearly symbiotic relationship, I must have written it off as just another layer of the whole "Osenai sells his body" thing. Taken to a whole other level. I missed (or else have since forgotten) the gay magazines entirely, which is unusual for me because ordinarily my mind picks up on subtext like that XD

Of course, it's possible I didn't pay much mind because I didn't really find Osenai all that interesting on my first viewing - with the exception of that scene in the butterfly gallery. I was trying to figure Konokawa out, and yeah, Chiba and Tokita. But this conversation has made me want to pay closer attention to Osenai - or watch Paprika again, more carefully, at the very least. Thanks!

You're welcome! I'd admit to having a deep fondness for Konokawa, but all the characters in this movie are just awesome, so I'll just confess my love for all of them. Haha~

Have fun with your next viewing! I actually want to write a fiction about Osenai's side of everything, but I don't think I'd be able to work on it for quite a long time. Oh, well...

... crap, really? you say that too? rofllll, that's awesome. go us?! /o/ I'd be more proud of my fan status but .. my friends would seriously think I was insane and wonder what was wrong with me, since I'm not a big shipper type at all. =/ sigh. my pride is, unfortunately, closeted.

My friend tells people, "Mai generally says Axel's name many times until I understand which emotion she's trying to stress." I mean, there's just no way to countenance that, you just have to be proud XD It's really the only pairing I ship that hardcore and actively, too; I'm usually more pairing-promiscuous with my fandom ways.

But seriously, your secret warmed my heart when I saw it, because usually when Axel/Roxas ends up on F!S it's along the strain of 'I'm sick of AkuRoku', or 'I love this pairing but won't tell anyone because I hate everyone else who ships it' D:
