I very much look forward to reading what you come up with, OP. Capsicoul as a whole tends to be far too loaded with unrealistically saccharine fic which is pretty much the OPPOSITE of what I actually want from the pairing.

So please! Make it better! Fight the good fight! :D

I managed to find a decent fic a while back that developed their relationship in a relatively believable way (it did have a few parts that were a bit too schmoopy for me, but overall I enjoyed it)

Part of it explored the whole "Steve realizes that Coulson is pretty freakin rad too" so it became a more "mutual respect and admiration" kind of thing which I actually liked and thought was pretty cute.

I'm also not a fan of fics where there relationship is super overtly sexal right off the bat. Sure Steve isn't a "super pure virginal flower" because he grew up during the 40's, but his society as a whole was much more restrained about sexuality (especially with members of the same sex) and I don't see Coulson as being an overtly sexual being either.

Yeah, the pairing squicks me a lot because of the way the fic handles what should be a time difference plus a hero worship thing (a lot of pairings involving Steve do, because of these or similar reasons.) I've pretty much given up at this point.

IA. It's not my favorite Coulson pairing, but I have always been intrigued by it. There's never been fic that sufficiently captured my attention though.
