Jo died the death of a well rounded character. A hero's death.

THIS!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I am really glad that I watched the later seaosons first. Had I seen the earlier seasons first, I would have hated Jo. She was a fucking moron. "Oh. This evil ghost thing has a thing for young, pretty blonde women. Instead of letting someone who does not fit his victim profile stop him, I shall! Nothing can go wrong."

But the whole point was making herself bait. She didn't go after it IGNORING the fact she fit the profile - she went into it with the full intention of USING the fact that she fit the profile. It was brave, not stupid, and she was key to defeating the ghost.

I really, really, really hated that they killed her off.

But I really, really, really thought she had tons more chemistry with Sam than Dean...

Well, fans complained so she got axed. It's why most of the females get axed. Of course they're axed because 'omg j2/omg Destiel', which neither of those things are ever going to happen. It's a shame.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
The only female that I complained about (until I stopped watching - mid season six) was Ruby. I've never liked her in any incarnation. I've liked pretty much liked all the rest.

Supernatural fans (as a whole) are a bit insane

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Given that they did a clean out of the supporting cast that season I somehow doubt that Wincest or Destiel had much to do with it. Budget on the other hand ...

Yeah, no, sorry. Fans and 'Destiel' had *nothing* to do with Jo's dying. It was pretty clear by that episode that she and Dean were not ever going to be a 'couple' - she was *not* on the radar of rabid Destiel fans.

Jeez.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Fans complaining is why her main-ish status (in season 2) got cut. It wasn't why the character got killed.

Most Destiel fans got to know Jo in her death episode, there was no way they could've complained between commercial breaks to get her killed.

She was axed because Kirpke hated that the network made him add characters to his 'concept'. Same as Ellen, Bella, and Ash.

I only watched the show for the Harvelle ladies tbh

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
You watched a 100+ episode show for two characters that were in 10 epis?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not every fan likes the main character. Some fans prefer minor characters over the main ones even though they enjoy the overall plot. This shouldn't come as a surprise.

I was a casual watcher, checked the episodes if I caught them on TV. They were the only characters that really grabbed my attention. Once they were gone, there was no reason to watch it anymore.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I was glad she died. She was the only female character I hated.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
She was fridged just like any other woman is on that lame show.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Uh no. Jo was a hunter who died a hunter's death. Just like Bobby and all the other male hunters who did their jobs. Just because a female character dies it doesn't mean they are automatically 'fridged'.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Writing-wise, she died to make Dean feel bad. Period. She was fridged.

If you want to call the self-sacrificial, plot-serving death of a woman that also served as the culmination of her relationship with her mother "fridging", then yes.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
There is no need for this to be a secret. It's a pretty common opinion on the fandom, AFAIK.

I miss Jo too. :(

(Anonymous) 2014-11-27 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
You'd have to remove all of Jo's affections for him if you want her to live.

I'll be honest, I didn't like her until she died, then I wished she would have stayed around (I feel like she would have grown out of Dean and not slept with him, thus saving her imminent death. Unfortunately, she crushed on him and did they kiss? Yeah, sealed deal right there.)
dreamsofspike: (Default)

[personal profile] dreamsofspike 2014-12-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
They didn't kiss until the moment of her death, actually. So I don't think the kiss "sealed" anything.
