Notes:

Since people wanted I'd hit it/I ship it secrets back, putting them back! If there's an influx of like 400 x "I ship it + 2 totally random characters with no explanation" next week though, it's going back in the failbar. :(

Hey, whatever works. Also the things we get emotionally attached to as kids can stay with us all our lives, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Sorry about all the shit you went, through, OP. Doesn't sound like you had it easy in life. Don't be too hard on yourself. If a Sesame Street character makes you happy, then allow yourself to feel happy about it.

I think Jim Henson would be proud. I'm so glad that you had someone, even a tv character, that helped you cope with situations that no children should have to experience. I hope that you are in a better place now.

Honestly, OP? You should be proud of that. There's no shame in loving something that helped you survive the things you've been through. I hope you've found happiness.

Nothing wrong with that OP. Sometimes it's the things from our childhood that get us through the difficult times as adults.

Big Bird is a nice, friendly character who wants you to be healthy and happy. I'd think he'd be happy to help you in any way you need to feel better.

I think that's kind of what Big Bird is for. (As is a lot of the old Sesame Street cast.)

(Anonymous) 2014-11-29 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
No shame in that, OP. I'm a few years older than you and Jim Henson and all the muppets were a huge part of my childhood. I still find them comforting and Big Bird was one of the best. There was something very child-like and innocent about him despite his size, and I think he articulated a lot of the issues kids AND adults have in growing up and dealing with hard issues.

I'm a big believer in doing whatever it takes to get you through the current situation, and if it harms no one, then it's kosher. Good luck and best wishes.

It is good that it makes you feel good. No matter what age you are!

[lj]scarfman

I see nothing wrong with this. I think you should write Carroll Spinney, anonymously if you prefer, and tell him because it would make his year.

why do you write your lj username at the top?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Just a heads up: you can sign in on dreamwidth with your lj account using OpenID, since DW supports multiple platforms. Just in case you didn't know this already :)

OP, that's fine (that you find Big Bird to be the friend you wish you had/had as a kid). I hope you're finding help (i.e. speaking to a therapist) for all that happened to you. I hear there are service dogs for veterans who have PTSD...have you looked into that?

Also, I'm not sure if you'd be into it, but maybe you could write a letter to the folks down at the Sesame , or some type of program that would allow you to meet Big Bird...? I have no idea if that's a possibility or if you'd even be into it, but who knows? That might even lead to a Sesame Street episode that might address child abuse (they've had Elmo's dad go to war, I think they address a lot of things children might face). Again I have no idea. I hope you're doing better though :I

bless you, anon

[also, thank you for your service]

That's exactly why Big Bird was created, I think.
