Yeah, I know what you mean OP. Like Cosby was a huge part of my childhood too. I loved The Cosby Show, and it makes me sad that a great character like Cliff Huxtable was played by someone who was so morally corrupt. But at the same time, I can't deny it any more. It's not like one person coming out about it. One person? Maybe wait for a trial. But 19? Yeah, he's definitely guilty.

At the same time, OP. Remember that Billy Cosby is not Cliff Huxtable. Dr. Huxtable was a great man and an inspiration for us all growing up. We can still admire the character and separate him from the actor. One man taking advantage of people's trust and using his fame and money to get away with being a serial rapist should not take the memories you had of The Huxtables.

See, here's my problem: I watched the Cosby Show as a kid, sure, but it isn't my strongest positive association with Bill Cosby. That honor goes to the incomparable Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids.

Seriously, go look up some of those old episodes. Positive black-focused entertainment for kids that, yeah, does the heavy-handed moral lesson thing, but is FUNNY in the process. Every character gets to be fallible, gets to be right, gets to be wrong, and they're all black. There's nothing else in the set with that; it stands alone, a high-water mark nothing else has reached.

And while he was making it, filming those great intros and outros, he was apparently drugging women to rape them.

Well, not at the EXACT same time, there were cameras on him. But in that timeframe.

That's a bad thing to have permanently tainted.

I used to love Fat Albert too, but it did dawn on me a long time ago (years before the rape accusations) that it was kind of odd there were about ten Cosby kids and none of them were girls.

Nah, that makes sense. A lot of shows in that time period believed you could have the attention of boys or girls, but not both. Cosby probably felt more inclined to reach out to the young black men of the future and his show was tooled accordingly.

It's still more or less that way today.

Yeah, I loved Fat Albert. The '70s was the best time for innocent inclusivity--I was the whitest kid on the planet and I was raised on Fat Albert, Good Times, What's Happening!!, Kid Power, all that good stuff. Sometimes I wish cable TV, which busted up the three big networks and made it possible for everyone to consume only media that looked just like them had never happened.

The Cosby story is killing me. I absolutely believe those women but it's killing me. Fuck him, man. Why did he have to be such a disgusting, predatory prick? He had everything.

And why and how could his wife defend him?
