I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, at least, I like to make them if I think it's one that will make people laugh, or if I think it makes sense for the fandom. It's not really any deeper than that, to me.

So, then they are supposed to be humorous? I think that's what trips me up because so many are just not funny to me that I feel like they must be going for something else.

They're not always meant to be funny, they're meant to elicit some sort of emotion. There's a surprising number that are about suicide or depression. (The "knives weren't meant to cut air" one springs to mind.) It's just that those don't often get fandomized.

I think they are? Or, at least, amusing? Like, maybe not laugh-out-loud funny, but the characters/quotes fitting enough that it's makes someone smile?

Not all of them ones that I've made were "laugh out loud" funny, admittedly, but they made me smile.

Have you ever seen Ghost Hunt? Because I made this one, and it was mostly because I thought it would be funny. But then I made this one, because I thought it made sense, and the way it made sense made me smile.

I have no idea if this is making any sense, sorry, but basically I make them if they make me smile/laugh, and I share them in the hopes that they'll do the same for other people.
