I agree.

Just a little side note

I've actually seen what ship persecution looks like. Some jagoff decides a popular pairing is the cancer that's killing the fandom, and they get all their buddies to spam personal insults in the comments of popular fics for days at a time. You don't get that shit with rarepairs.

I've gotten that shit on a lesser popular pairing. Not rare, but definitely not a fandom favorite. Probably because of the rival ship or whatever stupid reason which already probably had 10 fics per our 1.

Shipping wars are stupid. I've shipped the non-juggernaut ship before and it can suck all the fun out of the experience when you can't find any fanworks. Right now I do ship the juggernaut pairing and it's awesome.

No one is better than anyone else because of who they ship.

Confession: The main reason I made this secret is because of the discussion of juggernaut pairings the other day and when I happened to see the picture, I couldn't resist.

Cat cracks me up every time I look at it.

You don't have a link, do you OP? :)

It was within the past two weeks. I'll see if I can find it. Google's being unhelpful though.

General comments section? Or a secret?

You don't need to go out of your way, I can search myself!

General comments section

It wasn't wanky or anything (here at least) just a list of popular ships people weren't into

Oh, ok, thanks! :D

Yup, there are some popular ships that I don't ship but I sure as hell don't care if other people do. (It is a little disappointing when you can't find much fanwork for a pairing but then it isn't other peoples job in fandom to cater solely to my interests).

Thank you. I wish that wad a more prevalent attitude.

I ship - juggeranaut pairing or rarepair, canon or not - because I find the idea of the particular relationship appealing, not because I think I need to ship something. I've had fandoms where I didn't ship anyone at all (at least not beyond giving a nod of approval to a cannon ship or two). If I wasn't shipping a popular ship, I wouldn't necessarily be shipping a less popular one in it's place. As for fanworks - it's not like a set amount of fanfic that will be produced each year and it may or may not be distributed fairly. People just write what they want to write. If they weren't writing about their favorite pairing, they might be writing about some other popular ship in a different fandom, or writing gen, or not writing at all - it's not a given that they'd write rarepairs in the same fandom as their OTP.

I'm like this as well. I've never been able to get into shipping in the Harry Potter fandom. It just doesn't interest me in the slightest. At all. So the vast majority of fic just doesn't do anything for me. But that's okay. Sometimes you'll hit the jackpot (I sure did in MCU) but sometimes you won't.

This.

I have a some juggernaut ships and some painfully obscure ships. Strangely enough, the potential amount of fanwork that may or may not exist for them has never been a factor in whether or not they appeal to me. I don't really care whether there's fanwork at all, if I ship the thing then I ship the thing.

My current fandom has always had a very vocal subset who seem to think that demanding people stop writing for the juggernaut pairing will somehow mean we'll all switch to writing the ships they think we should be writing instead. I don't deny that there'll always be a minority who will write for whatever they see is popular, but I don't think it's ever crossed their minds that if the rest of us wanted to be writing for those other/smaller ships, we already would be. Hating on us for not doing what they want us to do (and, 99% of the time, aren't even doing themselves to promote their ship, just whining that other people need to do it instead) isn't exactly going to endear us to the cause.

Hah, I saw (very minor) wank about this as well, anger at the "juggernaut pairings" somewhere. The irony was that when the fics were counted up, the rarepair the person was moaning there wasn't enough of was actually one of the juggernauts.

Nice to see that classic helmet kitty pic again. Poor kitty does not want helmet!

The cat in this secret looks exactly like my cat, Vlad.

I fucking agree with you, OP. Whatever pairing you ship doesn't make you any better than people shipping the other pairings whether it's the juggernaut pairing or the rare pairing or whatever it is. IT'S JUST SHIPPING. I hate this crap too when people multiship and think they're so much better than people who only ship one pairing. Stop acting like you're superior because you think about more fictional characters fucking than others do.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
The sad thing about having a rare-ship as a main OTP is the lack of fanworks. You know, popular ships gets more fanworks without people requesting for them. :/

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, most modern juggernaut ships are awful, so almost anything else is superior just by virtue of not being abusive or not requiring the characters to be ooc for it to work.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm…what?

Seriously, I'm thinking of my current favorite juggernaut pairing (Stucky or Steve Rogers x Bucky Barnes) and it's like…the complete opposite of abusive and ooc. You can't even say that Bucky tried to kill Steve is a valid example of abuse considering he was brainwashed and mind wiped but managed to break through his conditioning due to his love for Steve's and Steve's unconditional faith and love in him.

What in the world are you thinking of?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-30 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
The butthurt is strong with this one.
