That's actually one of the reasons I enjoy playing as a non-white female human in DA specifically: a) it adds some color into a world filled with mayonnaise and b) it's a nice bit of escapism to make someone who looks like me and doesn't get judged for her race. (I also liked having my ambiguously brown Amell mage dynasty in the first two games. :D)

I do hate the way some games, DA in particular, treat female characters though. Obviously they can't be barred from doing anything, because that would disrupt the storyline, but you still get the annoying comments from NPCs all like "omg a laaaaady Warden?? how that??" Or the awful "girl power" dialogue options. Just. No. You tried and failed horribly, please stop trying.

ayrt

Ambiguously brown people did exist in some areas though. like maybe 1 out of 50, there were def people with darker skin tones. ASIAN people in DA though... lol.... literally 0? Then the Champion is some Chinese man/woman?? It's too snowflakey for me

It could make sense for the Mage storyline, maybe. I doubt they care what country you're from. If you're a mage, you're going in the Tower. I can think of a couple of ways it could happen (yes, it requires some mental hoops, but at least it makes more sense than a human noble or city elf origin).
