It is cruel to mock someone who's passionate about something.

The very fact that you can't see that is likely explained by the fact your family's behavior makes you think demeaning people is 'harmless' and normal and just amusing teasing.

It's all about consent, anon. Someone who doesn't like being teased shouldn't be teased. But there are people (like me, forexample) who are okay with being teasedin certain ways. Friends are allowed to tease me in ways that strangers are acquaintances aren't, because I know there's no malice behind it, and because they know what I'm comfortable with.

Honestly, you're being a far bigger dick than a person who engages in good-natured teasing. Your comments drip with malice and a complete lack of understanding that not everyone is like you. It seems like you're one of those people who thinks it's okay to be rude if you just say "I'm being honest."
