Re: Sherlock and Elementary

Depends on the adaptation of course, but sometimes an adaptation that's not very close to canon can take on a life of its own. While I love the Grenada version of Sherlock Holmes because it's more faithful to ACD canon, I appreciate the differences in shows like Elementary and Sherlock because they're playing with the concepts and characters, and those are the aspects of the canon that are timeless, not the Victorian London setting.

It's sort of like enjoying fanfic that's true to canon and being able to enjoy AU as well. It's especially true for Sherlock Holmes, since just about every brilliant detective owes a nod to ACD.
