Yeah, that's true. Should've remember the old adage of "my experience isn't everyone's."

Still, I think the feelings probably are very similar. They might also be said to be akin to the way it feels to be challenged on a deeply-held belief. When there are strong emotions behind something, it can hurt just to come across someone who doesn't feel the same way.

No, I think you're right-Only it's more like being addicted to a drug. The mix of pleasurable feelings you get when you ship is much stronger/you get more 'hits' if the couple is canon. Then there's also the people who hate to lose/are just pushing their life onto it. There were a lot of male NS shippers on that narusaku.com sight that flipped their shit and said Sakura was just like their ex-girlfriends/girls that never gave them a chance, how are they supposed to think their 'perfect girl' will ever love them if Naruto can't get his, etcetc.
