Re: Things that really annoy you right now

I'm sorry, anon. I agree though, it's time to discuss this with your doctor, first to get an actual diagnosis and then to maybe see about some therapy.

I haven't been to the doctor since I was like 12 (besides to get a shot about 2 years ago). That's not gonna happen. Here's the thing too -- I already know why I'm acting like this. It's because I feel incompetent, don't do my work, freak out and stress out, overeat, feel guilty and purge, and then finally get my ass in gear and do what I'm supposed to.

If I just stopped being a lazy shit and actually did my work in the first place, this wouldn't happen.

Why won't you go see a doctor? If it's not for financial reasons I think you're being silly.

Partially it's that (I don't have a lot of money) but the big reason is that I'm still on my parent's plan and I'm worried they would find out. That and I've never actually scheduled a doctor's visit before.

I think they are legally obliged to keep such things confidential.

please, please do reconsider, OP!

at least, if not now, then as soon as you can get some money

because if you are doing these things to your body, then it can cause a lot of long-term damage. stuff that may not seem real to you right now, but will if you keep it up and eventually end up in emergency.

and then it will be a LOT more expensive to deal with. (trust me... you don't want to be 26 and have to wear dentures like an 80-year-old... or a completely ruined GI tract... or bald spots...)

why are you worried that your parents will find out? i'd imagine most parents would WANT their money to go towards the health and long-term recovery of their kids. but if your parents aren't like that, or you're just not feeling ready to talk to them, you could always tell them it's for some other health condition.

doctors and therapists also have to keep stuff confidential.

If your parents' plan will allow it, you should be getting regular check ups anyway, anon. Especially if you're an adult because there are likely booster shots and vaccines that need updated, regular gyno visits and pap smears if you're female, etc. etc.

As much as I respect your ability to know yourself, "being a lazy shit" isn't really a good explanation for bulimia, and neither is knowing it the cure. I suppose it's possible you could find a way to manage your time, anxieties and effort better all on your own, but... I'm sorry, how's that working out for you so far? Getting help is not a bad idea.

Oh, sweetheart, don't do this to yourself. That sort of thinking will only give you anxiety and get you into a loop of avoidance behavior.

There's sometimes a fine line between "lazy" and avoiding work because something is up psychologically. And it really, really sounds like it's the latter.

Don't punish yourself - and really, that IS what you're doing. Nothing good will come of it, it only does more damage.
