(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 05:25 am (UTC)(link)You do realize you're contradicting your own argument there, right?
Or are you the only one capable of discerning which characters are deserving of criticism and which apparently get a free pass to be as shitty and undeveloped as possible just because they're female?

(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 06:38 am (UTC)(link)Yes, there have been many instances where the character has just plain been written badly and the writers need to be taken to task for it
So you just proved the above anon's point for them.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)Hating on a female character isn't necessarily misogyny because I've seen a lot of the arguments against female characters made against male characters (such as Ron not being "good enough" for Hermione for instance or them exaggerating his flaws). It's when female characters are hated on in a way that targets them as women -- for example, calling them bitches or sluts the way Ginny was even though she'd only dated a couple guys.
But saying you find Ginny boring and underdeveloped isn't misogyny because the same could easily be said of a male character.
And, as the anon above me noted, hating on female characters is by no means exclusive to slashers. It's an issue in shipping as a whole. Nor is hate confined to female characters.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)Another example of this (the hate on male characters in het ships rather than the female) would be the batshit Shugo Chara shipwars.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 09:16 am (UTC)(link)Pull the other leg, it has got bells on it.
I smell slash fans caring about feminism only when the woman is getting in the way of their ship from here.
I have had enough of fans using concern trolling to justify why they hate characters or ships that get in the way of their fav.
Every fandom. All the time. The same identical things being said. It's like you're the same person.
You should all reunite into some convention at this point and print what you wrote on a t-shirt or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-01 10:27 am (UTC)(link)Nice try, but nope. Would you like a list of the female characters from my canons that I love? I can type it up, but it would probably take me a while because there are a lot of them.
But, because I'm feeling charitable, I'll give you an example of the sort of character I was talking about when I made that comment: Cheria from Tales of Graces. She started out as a great, interesting character who was a refreshing change from the "sat around at home waiting for her crush to come back" archetype. She was driven, she had her own goals and dreams, and when Asbel left she stopped pining for him after a while, moved on, and actively worked towards the life she wanted. She even called Asbel out on the fact that he was kind of a giant dick for seven years there. For the first part of the story, she was awesome.
And then the writers stopped her character development dead in its tracks and had this woman who was described and portrayed up until that point as being mature and responsible go back to acting like a jealous preteen over a guy who had up and abandoned her when she needed him most. Oh, and they also had her get kidnapped (despite her being a more than competent fighter) solely for the sake of making Asbel feel bad about not being able to protect her. On top of that, they had her just turn around and forgive him for being a dick when she had every right to be angry at him for the way he'd been acting.
From that point on, she was literally just the Token Love Interest. You could've taken her out of the story after that and it would have had zero effect. The other two female party members were crucial to the plot, but she had no influence on it whatsoever. She was just there.
So yeah, I'm mad that a character I initially liked got put on the Love Interest bus and had her character development totally destroyed in the process.
