Let's put it this way: I'm glad I have no legal ties to my bf's family.

That makes it sounds bad, really, they're usually nice to me - but I'm basically refusing to see his mother since I heard she's basically saying I'm depriving her son of children behind my back.

Oh gods. :( I don't blame you for the way you feel; that's a nasty thing for her to be saying. And I'll bet she doesn't even realize that she's insulting her son as well as you, given that she's implying a lack of agency on his part.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

Well, that's the thing, too: he doesn't want kids. More adamantly so than I, actually. For myself, there might have been scenario's in which I'd have considered it, I think.

But basically, from what I understand, she's convinced that if he had found a more "motherly" woman, she'd have "coaxed" him into wanting kids. Or convinced him she'd do all the childrearing (which I really wouldn't volunteer for) so he'd be swayed to have babies because it would not be much trouble for him. Or something.

Uggh, sounds like she's shifting things instead of accepting who her son actually is. :-/ Reminds me a bit of my own mother, actually -- she's so intent on being a grandmother, she seems to forget sometimes that it's mine and my husband's choice and not hers.
