I've seen more than a few fans with icons or gifs sneering "yeah, sure, ____ and ___ are just friends"

Oh geez, I've seen an icon just like this in one of my fandoms. And it was over a picture of one guy hugging the other after the second guy had been through a really traumatizing ordeal. Because when your best friend is horribly traumatized and almost died, what he needs from you is a manly stern nod, amirite?

Though still not as bad as the scads of super-inflammatory bash-the-rival-ship het icons I've seen. Harry Potter and ATLA shipping fandom seemed to be more interested in bashing their rival ship than in praising their own ship...
