Yeah, that's gratuitous and stupid. From what I saw though, het fans tend to do that only after the slash fans posted hate in the shipper tags or comment into posts that are pro the het ship saying things like 'nah your ship is a farce, he obviously loves the other man and doesn't give a shit about the girl because of reasons, that's canon!', reasons that often are a big stretch or blatantly contraddicted by the authors.
Or people are called homophobic because they ship the canon het and not the slash ship.
There is an equal amount of slash fans who snide to het fans being the oh so delusional fangirls who are too dumb to realize that their ship is just a 'no homo!' stuff that exists just because the writers must deny the slash ship.

There are slash fans who never hate on other ships and only see the het fans having a reaction over the trolling of other slash fans without having context. Some people might be annoyed and bitter with your fandom group now because of a vocal minority of shippers that were entlitled and forceful about their shipping preferences with them. The same way you are bitter with the het fans you described. It's a never ending circle that could be avoided if everyone just stopped to ruin the party for other shippers and they stay in their lane.

Yeah, this is 100% true too. Snide het fans and slash fans tend to come in fairly equal proportions (relative to the overall sizes of their respective ships) and are both the fucking worst.
